Developing Mutual Respect, Cooperation and Responsibility in our Learning Environment is our Focus.
We believe that a community of parents, students, teachers and administrators can create a positive learning environment. Adults and children can feel encouraged and empowered to accept themselves and others and to work together for the good of all. Our goal at Patterson is to build skills, which promote learning and mutual respect.
Patterson Positive Points
Patterson staff looks for examples of positive behavior and actions from the students at Patterson School. When students are caught doing one of the Patterson Positive Points (Caring, Fairness, Respect, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Citizenship) they are sent to the office for a positive reward.
Student Involvement
There are a number of activities at Patterson School in which students can become involved. Before and after school activities have become increasingly popular among the students in the intermediate grades. Information regarding available activities is shared throughout the school year.
Fall, 2009
Dear Patterson Community,
Welcome to the 2009 – 2010 school year at Patterson Elementary! I am delighted to welcome you back for an exciting year and to meet those of you who are new to the school. As your new principal, I am thrilled to be joining this dynamic team and looking forward to meeting you in person at one of the many events this year.
In fact, we are all fortunate to be members of the Patterson Community. Patterson Elementary has achieved the academic excellence award from the Illinois State Board of Education for long-term exemplary academic performance on the Illinois learning standards. Our students’ success is due in part to the partnership our school has with the parents and community. Together, we are able to provide an outstanding educational experience for all our learners.
I hope those of you who have been actively involved with your child’s education through the many opportunities our Patterson P.T.A. provides, will continue that tradition. For those of you new to our community, I encourage you to join the P.T.A. and consider ways you can be a part of this incredible partnership between home and school.
This year is sure to be another great year at Patterson. I look forward to working with you and your children.
Sincerely,
Michele Frost

Change…
“…It is a coming”, “Nobody likes….”, “Turn and face the strange, Changes”.
Defined by Webster’s as “to make or become different, to make or become a different substance entirely; transform”.
This year the Patterson community will see many changes in the school. First and foremost, they will notice a change in our Principal. Mrs. Michele Frost has taken the reigns as Principal. The PTA would like to welcome Mrs. Frost and wish her a great school year and future at Patterson.
Second, the PTA Executive Board has changed. The board welcomes back some familiar faces and welcomes some new. The board consists of:
President, Lisa Pearce lisampearce@mac.com
VP Administration, Donna Widmann hoppinmom@wowway.com
VP Finance, Cheryl Pastore cpastore12@aol.com
VP Enrichment, Colleen Garrison cgarrison@wideopenwest.com
Treasurer, Debbie D’Ambrose debdambrose@yahoo.com
Secretary, Janet Juarez j.juarez@me.com
The District also has a new Superintendent, new School Board, new high school, new lunch program, new Wednesday start time and new homework policy.
All of these items separately could make a person cringe. As the new Executive Board, we hope that nothing is “transformed” so that you don’t recognize it. If it is being changed, we hope it is for the better. We will continue our efforts to “Go Green” and encourage you to check the website frequently. We hope to do some exciting and fun things to help our children learn about their place in the world and how to make it a better place.
We have made a noticeable change to the room parties this year for our older grades (3-5). Their “craft” will now be a community service project that will help others. More information will follow later.
Our theme this year is “Patterson’s Safari Adventure”, to coincide with our gift-wrap sale. Please support the gift-wrap fundraiser. It is largest of our fundraisers and it helps us do wonderful things for the children and the school.
Please feel free to contact any of us with questions or constructive ways we can “change” for the better.
