ArtCurriculumOur art curriculum emphasizes the continuity of art learning from kindergarten through fifth grade. Each year builds upon the concept learned from the previous year. The art curriculum in all grades, kindergarten through fifth, emphasizes heightening visual awareness. The students are encouraged to develop their own individual creativity and aesthetic awareness and to develop an appreciation for their own art work as well as the work of others. The students will also develop an understanding of various styles and periods of art through art history in all grade levels. We are very fortunate here at Patterson because our P.T.A. sponsors an art awareness program. The master works, which are used to teach the program, are hanging throughout the school for the students to enjoy year-round. In primary grades, students begin with a basic understanding of art concepts and materials. They begin learning basic color theory and the utilization of new materials and processes in both 2-D and 3-D work They also begin to learn about the elements of art and the principles of design. In the intermediate and upper elementary levels, the curriculum gets more challenging as the student matures and is capable of handling advanced concepts and tools. We also have an art club which is opened to all 4th and 5th grades students who wish to join. Please take some time to look at the truly inspirational artwork hanging on the walls throughout the school It is the best evidence of your child's creative potential. |
